About Us

We are Kristen and Michael from Orange County, CA. We fell in love with the Joshua Tree area and the mysteries deep in its roots after years of visiting for work and seeking an escape from the city to vacation. In July 2021, we decided to follow our hearts and purchase a unique Mid-Century home in the Flamingo Heights area of Yucca Valley, and transformed it ourselves into our dream desert getaway. We envisioned creating not only a place for personal rejuvenation and resetting but also a space to share with others, and thus, The Seventh Ray House was established.

When we embarked on this venture, we chose to document the entire experience—from buying our first house and renovating it ourselves to hosting guests at our vacation rental. We began sharing our journey on YouTube, allowing our family members to stay updated. A year later, we had garnered a community of followers who were deeply invested in our dream-building process.

Before this journey, we had spent a decade working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. Kristen served as an entertainment news journalist and producer at Entertainment Tonight and also worked as a makeup artist. Meanwhile, Michael pursued a career as a music producer and songwriter. We both cherish our collaborative creative endeavors and continue to work creatively in Los Angeles.

Why "The Seventh Ray House"? There are seven rays of creation on Earth, observable in phenomena like the seven colors of the rainbow, the seven notes in a musical scale, the seven energetic chakras in the human body, the seven hermetic universal principles, and so forth. We felt the name was apt for a place designed to be our paradise and a setting for others to create lasting memories.

Over the past three years, we have devoted countless hours to exploring and falling in love with the Joshua Tree area. Our experiences have equipped us with invaluable insights about our favorite spots, from eateries to shopping destinations. You can find our recommendations here.
